As of 14th April 2020, licensed bookmakers in the UK will no longer be able to accept credit cards as a deposit method at their websites.

Due to a heavy crackdown in responsible gambling and reports of up to 800,000 people using credit cards to gamble, the UK Gambling Commission has called for a complete ban on credit card use both online and offline.

The UK Gambling Commission chief executive, Neil McArthur has said,

“Gambling with credit cards can lead to serious financial problems. The ban announced today should reduce the risks of harm to people from gambling with borrowed money.

“The research indicates that almost 22% of online gambling users who use credit cards have a gambling problem.”

“Evidence also tells us that fees incurred with credit card usage can worsen the problem because problem gamblers try to chase losses to a greater extent.”

At Betting Sites Ltd we think it's a logical step to further promote responsible gambling so that gamblers only deposit what they can afford to lose.

Our advice for all gamblers is to set limits with the betting sites you visit to help you manage your spending. All sites offer deposit limits, time outs, loss limits and other tools to help you stay in control.

If you or anyone you know has a problem with gambling we recommend visiting begambleaware.org and Gamstop.co.uk where you can get advice and tools to help with gambling addiction.
