In this weekend’s early kick-off, Swansea City host Manchester United at the Liberty Stadium for the Premier League’s second game of the season.
Following their 4-0 romp against West Ham last weekend, Jose Mourinho will be hoping to take this form into their game on Saturday. £75m new signing, Romelu Lukaku, found the net twice in his Premier League debut for the Red Devils, while Anthony Martial scored off the bench and Paul Pogba made it four from range. Ex-Chelsea man Nemanja Mati? looked a revelation in the middle of the park for United, giving Pogba creative leeway to navigate further up the field in his preferred advanced midfielder role.
Meanwhile, Swansea will be licking their wound after losing the services of Gylfi Sigurdsson to Everton in a £45m switch earlier this week. The Icelandic midfielder was pivotal to Swansea’s survival last season, scoring 9 times and assisting 13 goals. The Swans will have to find a way to fill that gap in midfield if they wish to stay afloat this season. Their opener against Southampton suggested little to their Premier League fate, so will be hoping to get a result against United. They will be buoyed by the fact that since Paul Clement was appointed as head coach, Swansea have won nine of their twenty league games.
Tammy Abraham will likely make his home debut for Swansea this weekend, while Fernando Llorente is back in training after fracturing his arm in a cycling accident last month, but will not feature in the match. The United defensive trio Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo still remain sidelined, while Victor Lindelof will be hoping to force his way into the squad after struggling to adapt to the English game.
