Reigning Super League champions, Wigan Warriors have confirmed they will play one of their 'home' fixtures in next season's Super League in Australia.
In the first Super League game to be held outside of Europe, Wigan will take on Hull FC at the WIN Stadium in Wollongong in February 2018. Both sides take on Australian opposition in Sydney one week later with Wigan taking on 2014 NRL champions, South Sydney Rabbitohs before Hull go head-to-head with St George Illawarra Dragons.
After the exciting announcement was made, Wigan Warriors chairman, Ian Lenagan, said "We firmly believe that the Wigan and Hull fans will be as excited about this venture as we are and we have announced early to allow fans the chance to plan their trip to Australia."
His Hull FC counterpart, chairman Adam Pearson, added "There will be a great deal of excitement from fans of both clubs and we're sure, many will want to travel to New South Wales for such an historic occasion, support their team and help showcase all that is good about rugby league in the UK."
Whilst the match Down Under will inevitably drum up huge excitement amongst fans of both clubs, their immediate focus will be to clinch a place in this season's play-offs. Both Wigan and Hull have reached the Betfred Super League 'Super 8s' and with seven games left to play, all eight teams are in with a chance of reaching the end-of-season play-offs.
