Andy Murray will begin the defence of his Wimbledon title today when he meets qualifier, Alexander Bublik, on Centre Court.
Despite going into his home tournament as world number one and the top seed, Murray has been opposed by several bookmakers due to a disappointing run of injuries and form ahead of the tournament.
Murray, who is aiming to match Fred Perry's British record of three Wimbledon titles, crashed out of last month's Aegeon Championship at Queen's Club in the first round and has failed to reach a Grand Slam final since winning at the All England Club twelve months ago.
The British three-time Grand Slam winner admits that opening on Centre Court as the reigning champion increases the pressure on him as he looks to win again. Murray said, ""I don't feel like I'm coming in trying to defend something. I'm going out there trying to win Wimbledon again. I want to try to win the competition. Maybe it adds a little bit of extra pressure. Maybe a few more nerves, especially at this Slam with the way the scheduling is, that you're the first one out there on Centre Court. You feel like you're opening up the tournament a little bit, and that adds a few more nerves. But I feel OK. I've felt fairly calm the last few days, considering how I've been feeling."
With top seeding comes the advantage of avoiding the big guns until the latter stages. Murray cannot meet seven-time winner and bookies' favourite, Roger Federer until the final and will not meet any of the so-called 'Big Four' until the semi-finals at least.
Murray, Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have between them won each of the last fourteen Wimbledon titles but for the first time since 2014 they have been seeded one to four in a Grand Slam and will not meet until the semi-final late next week.
