Almost a week has passed since Southampton sacked manager Claude Puel and bookmakers have tipped former Alaves head coach, Mauricio Pellegrino, to replace the Frenchman.
Despite finishing eighth in the Premier League, Puel was dismissed last Thursday after just twelve months in charge at St Mary's.
Head of football development at Southampton, Les Reed and his technical staff have been tasked with finding the ideal candidate to take The Saints forward and many of the front runners have Premier League experience as either a player or manager.
Pellegrino played twelve times for Liverpool in 2005 before returning in 2008 as assistant to Rafa Benitez. That experience has seemingly put the former Argentinian international ahead of Dutchman, Frank de Boer, in the race for the St Mary's hotseat.
Another candidate to have attracted huge interest over the past 48 hours is New York City FC coach, Patrick Vieira. The Frenchman played 307 Premier League games in spells at Arsenal and Manchester City, winning three league titles in his time at Arsenal and his odds have been slashed from 20/1 to 3/1 in two days.
Dutchman, Frank de Boer, is another coach that remains on Southampton's radar, but the former Ajax coach is rumoured to be close to agreeing a deal to take over at Crystal Palace. When Puel was dismissed, de Boer was immediately installed as the bookies' favourite but his odds continue to drift.
